Squawk shows every one of these on a live map — military is never filtered out — and can push you an alert when one comes near you, even with the app closed.
This is the military traffic that is broadcasting. Many military flights operate with transponders off, and some use anonymised identifiers, so the real number is always higher. Nothing here says why an aircraft is flying or what it is doing — only its type, position, altitude and speed.
Live positions come from volunteer-run ADS-B receivers, shared as open data under the ODbL licence. An aircraft is visible here only if its transponder is broadcasting and a receiver hears it, so coverage is dense over North America and Europe and thin over oceans, deserts and mountains. Not for navigation or operational use. More about our data.
