Privacy Policy

Squawk ("the app") is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains what is collected, why, and where it goes.

What we collect

• Account — if you sign in (Apple or Google), we store your email address and display name to operate your account, logbook and leaderboard entry. Sign-in is optional; the map works as a guest.
• Location — used on-device to center the map, compute distances, and power the AR view. If you enable proximity alerts (zones, fire alerts), your chosen zone coordinates and an approximate home location are sent to our alert server so it can notify you. Your location is never tracked continuously and never sold.
• Push token & alert settings — if you enable notifications, your device push token and alert configuration (zones, watched aircraft, watched bases) are stored by our alert backend to deliver pushes when the app is closed.
• Logbook data — sightings you log are stored with your account.
• Microphone — the ATC Scanner feature listens only while you have it running, and transcription happens entirely on your device. No audio ever leaves your phone.

What we don't do

• No ads shown in the app, and no analytics brokers.
• We never sell your personal data.
• No continuous background location tracking.
• No cross-app tracking: we don't collect your advertising identifier (IDFA) and the app never shows Apple's tracking-permission prompt.

Ad measurement for our own App Store ads

We advertise Squawk itself (for example on Meta platforms). To count whether those ads lead to installs, the app includes Meta's SDK configured for Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork system: Apple reports anonymous, aggregated install counts to the ad network, and the SDK sends basic app events (such as app launches) with device metadata to Meta. This is not linked to your identity, does not include your advertising identifier, and is used only to measure our own ads — never to build a profile of you across apps.

Services we rely on

The app talks to a small set of infrastructure and data providers:

• Supabase — authentication and account/logbook storage.
• Cloudflare — our alert/push backend and this website.
• Apple — push notification delivery and in-app purchases.
• adsb.lol (open data) — live aircraft positions.
• NASA FIRMS / NIFC / state fire agencies — wildfire data.
• Planespotters.net & airport-data.com — aircraft photos.
• AeroDataBox — airline schedule lookups for flights you choose to track.
• Meta — anonymous, aggregated install measurement and basic app events for our own advertising (see "Ad measurement" above). No advertising identifier is collected.

Requests to these services carry only what's needed to answer them (for example, a map region or an aircraft identifier) and are governed by their own privacy policies.

Payments

Squawk Pro is an auto-renewing subscription handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Data retention & deletion

Alert configurations are deleted when you disable alerts or when your device token becomes invalid. To delete your account and all associated data (logbook, lifelist, profile), use the delete option in the app's account page or email us — we'll complete deletion within 30 days.

Children

Squawk is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we'll update this page and the date above.
